CRNS Membership Options

The CRNS has seven categories of membership. Most membership options follow an application process. For more information on membership options see the CRNS Bylaws here.

Practicing

Practicing membership is limited to those who hold a license to practice registered nursing by the CRNS. Practicing members can use the title “Registered Nurse” or “nurse”. Members receive professional liability protection, can be appointed to council and committees, participate in the Annual Meeting, can use the College’s consulting services, receive the CRNS News Bulletin and a copy of College documents.

Graduate Nurse

Graduate nurse membership is limited to those who hold a temporary license to practice registered nursing by the CRNS. Graduate nurse members can practice registered nursing under the supervision of an RN for the period specified by their license. These members can use the title “Graduate Nurse”, receive professional liability protection, use the College’s consulting services, and receive the CRNS News Bulletin and a copy of College documents.

Non-Practicing

Non-practicing membership is limited to those who have at one time been a practicing member of the CRNS and who were in good standing with the CRNS. Non-practicing members can be appointed to council or committees, attend the annual meeting of the College and receive the CRNS News Bulletin. Non-practicing members cannot use the title 'Registered Nurse' or practice nursing in Saskatchewan.

Inactive

Inactive membership is limited to those who have been a practicing member of the CRNS and who have not renewed their membership as a practicing, non-practicing or retired member. Inactive members are not authorized to practice registered nursing in Saskatchewan and have no privileges with the CRNS.

Retired

Retired membership is limited to those who have retired from the practice of registered nursing and who are in good standing with the CRNS. Retired members can be appointed to council committees, attend the annual meeting of the College and receive the CRNS News Bulletin. Retired members can use one of the following designations, RN (retired), NP (retired) or nurse (retired). As Retired membership is offered one time, please ensure you do not plan to return to work before applying for this status.

Emergency Practicing

Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners from other Canadian provinces or territories can apply for Emergency Practicing membership. These nurses must hold a practicing registration that is not subject to any practice limitations, restrictions or conditions. They must also provide proof of identity. Nurses generally apply for this membership when a public health emergency exists in Saskatchewan and their services are required to assist with that emergency.

Courtesy Educator Practicing

Courtesy Educator Practicing membership is available to Registered Nurses or Nurse Practitioners who are registered in good standing with another Canadian jurisdiction to work in Saskatchewan as an educator in a nursing program approved by the CRNS Council. These members may develop curriculum or provide theory courses in online programming or via distance delivery.
