The CRNS establishes a minimum or safe level of competence for all RN practice areas and communicates these competencies via its resource documents. Documents are developed based on the definitions and descriptions approved by CRNS Council.

Registered Nurse Resources

The following resources are specifically for Registered Nurses in Saskatchewan.

The following resources provide further role clarity and guidelines for RNs. RNs are self-regulated health care professionals who meet CRNS educational and licensure requirements and have passed the national registered nurse licensure exam.

Nurse Practitioner Resources

The following resources are specifically for Nurse Practitioners in Saskatchewan.

The following resources are for Nurse Practitioners (NP)s. An NP meets CRNS educational and licensure requirements, has one of the broadest scopes of practice of all RNs in Saskatchewan, and demonstrates the ability to apply Nurse Practitioner  standards and competencies.

RN(AAP) Resources

These tools and resources are specifically for RNs with Additional Authorized Practice [RN(AAP)] in Saskatchewan.

The following resources provide scope of practice and expectations for RN(AAP)s. An RN(AAP) meets CRNS educational and licensing requirements and demonstrates the ability to apply Additional Authorized Practice standards and competencies to diagnose and treat Limited Common Medical Disorders as identified in the Clinical Decision Tools (CDTs).

An RN(AAP) can only prescribe and dispense the medications that are identified in a CDT.
